"Stretching..."
A 10 kg mass (RED) and a 5 kg mass (BLUE) are suspended from pulleys as shown in the diagram. The lower mass is tied to the floor by another string. Two small metric scales (calibrated in newtons) are spliced into the rope. One of them is between the two pulley discs, the other just above the smaller mass. Assume that the masses of the scales are small enough to be neglected.
What do the scales read?

The string under the lighter mass is now cut.
What do the scales read after the masses start to move?
