I. Key Terms and Phrases

angular position: the angle measured from a chosen reference line.

angular velocity: the rate of change of angular position.

angular acceleration: the rate of change of angular velocity.

rolling without slipping: a form of rolling motion in which the point of contact between the wheel and the surface is instantaneously at rest.

moment of inertia: a quantity that represents the inertial property of a rotating object or system.

II. Important Equations
Name/TopicEquationExplanation
angular velocity
The average angular velocity of a rotating object.
angular acceleration
The average angular acceleration of a rotating object.
constant angular acceleration
The system of equations that describe motion with constant angular acceleration.
linear quantities
s = rq

vt = rw

at = ra

acp = rw2
The 4 equations that relate the linear and angular quantities in rotational motion.
