Chapter 12: Art of the Americas before 1300
Problems in Internet Research

1.

Use the QuickTime panoramic views available at Virtual Palenque to view the remains of this Maya monument. Describe your reaction to the scale of the site and to the relationship between open space and built space.

2.

Visit the Dumbarton Oaks Museum and Library site and take a look at their collection of Olmec sculpture (click on Olmec). What you see are much smaller items than the colossal head reproduced in your book. Despite the differences in size, what characteristics do the smaller Dumbarton Oaks pieces have in common with the colossal statue from La Venta?

3.

Go to Arizona State University's Teotihuacan Movie Download Page . Look at a minimum of three of the movies. How does the availability of this technology--panoramic views of ancient sites--offer information that is unavailable from traditional research or study materials?
