The origins of Psychology in America are detailed in this essay. Training in medicine, theology, education, or philosophy stirred these early writers to contribute to the literature, through writings on the mind, associationism, punishment, morals, excitement, reason, and the development of thought and feeling. Notably there are two women who receive credit for their contributions.

The site has the American Psychological Association's guidelines for research ethics when the studies involve animals. Many other professional associations use these as a model for their own guidelines.
