Chapter 6: Romanticism
Create a Listening Chart

We have provided a special feature of the Masterworks Interactive Edition where you may customize your own personalized Listening Chart based on an audio cd in your posession.

To construct your own Listening Chart, you must employ the use of Microsoft Word (or other Rich Text Format editor, such as Microsoft Works, etc.) to modify a Rich Text Format template that we have provided. Once you've added the appropriate audio cd track and time information, resave the document in the "Masterworks" designated folder and on your hard drive as a text-only file and launch the CYOLC.EXE application ("CYOLC" for Macintosh users). Click the "Import" button from within the CYOLC application, choose the template to play, set the cd track number to play, insert the audio cd and press play (or 00:00) to start the Listening Chart.

Here are the following detailed steps to creating your own listening chart:

  1. A folder called, "Masterworks" will be created on your hard drive from the Masterworks installer package. Locate the folder, "Masterworks" and open it (Windows users may look in Start Menu -> Masterworks).
  2. Double click to launch the document, "template.rtf" in Microsoft Word (or other RTF editor).
  3. A table has been created in the template indicating minute/second specific timings and a description box. Fill out the appropriate information for your audio selection by following the provided template. Be sure to erase the sample place holder template information with your new information.
  4. Once complete, save your new Listening Chart in the "Masterworks" folder on your hard drive as a text-only file (.txt). You may name the file whatever you wish, as long as it has a ".txt" as its suffix. Example: "rawhide.txt"
  5. Close out of Microsoft Word, and launch the CYOLC.EXE ("CYOLC" for Macintosh users) application.
  6. Click the "Import" button on the left side of the Listening Chart area, and select the Listening Chart of your choice from the "Masterworks" folder.
  7. Insert the proper CD Track Number in the "Track" area (small white box) on the left under the "RESET" button.
  8. Insert the appropriate audio cd in your computer's cd drive.
  9. Click "Play" at the bottom left of the window or "00:00" to begin the Listening Chart.

You may repeat click "Stop" at any time to stop the Listening Chart, or any of the minute/second specific timings to jump to a specific section or description. The Listening Chart may be repeated simply by pressing "Play" again. To choose a new Listening Chart, click "Import" and choose another Listening Chart. To quit the CYOLC application, go to the File Menu and select Quit.
