Cardiovascular disease
This destination is produced by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), a part of the Federal Government's National Institutes of Health. This site is the results of a study, called the Framingham Heart Study, which was designed to identify the common factors or characteristics that contribute to cardiovasular disease (CVD) by following its development over a long period of time in a large group of participants who had not yet developed overt symptoms of CVD or suffered a heart attack or stroke. As the site indicates, Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death and serious illness in the United States. In 1948, the Framingham Heart Study "embarked on an ambitious project in health research."
A healthy heart
This destination is produced by the American Heart Association, Inc. As this site indicates, "A healthy heart is a vital part of a healthy person … and we know many things you can do to help keep you healthy." This excellent site presents information on the healthy heart, including the latest research advances in heart disease and stroke.
The Electrocardiogram
This destination is produced by the Arizona Board of Regents This site describes the Electrocardiogram (EKG), the tool that allows physicians and emergency medical technicians to tell us something about the workings of our heart.
