Destinations

Cataracts
This destination is produced by the National Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health, NIH Publication No. 99-201. In a cataract’s early stages, it may not cause a problem. The cloudiness may affect only a small part of the lens. However, the cataract may grow larger and cloud more of the lens, making it harder to see. If this occurs, less light reaches the retina, and your vision may become dull and blurry. This excellent site provides additional information of this serious condition.
Childrens eye problems
This destination is produced by Prevent Blindness America. Without good vision, a child's ability to learn about the world becomes more difficult. Vision problems affect one in 20 preschoolers and one in four school-age children. This site focuses in on some of these many vision problems that can begin at an early age.
Hearing and older people
This destination is produced by the National Institute on Aging Information Center, P.O. Box 8057, Gaithersburg, MD 20898-8057. About 1/3 of Americans between age 65 and 74 and 1/2 of those age 85 and older have hearing problems. Hearing problems can be small (missing certain sounds) or large (involving total deafness). This site provides information on hearing problems of the elderly.
