To download a Bourne shell to run on a Win32 platform:

A company called Cygnus has ported the very popular Bourne-shell clone (BASH) to run on Win32 platforms. You will have to know how to download and install new software. But if you know how to do that, the documentation they provide should help you through everything else.

Check the website at: http://sourceware.cygnus.com//cygwin

You will see a link at the top of the page for "README" and one for download. Be sure to check the "readme" information first. Then download the bundle and install.

They offer it in two forms. The developer's version includes the shell, utilities, a C compiler, and a variety of other tools for C programmers. The utilities and shell are available by themselves in a separate file which is much smaller.

*(If you're actually using MS-DOS, it will be more difficult, but not impossible.)
