Marie-Louise von Franz was born in Munich, Germany , but educated in Switzerland , where she studied Jungian psychology and spent much of her life. As an author, von Franz has concentrated on the subjects of mythology and fairy tales. Her works include An Introduction to the Interpretation of Fairy Tales (1970), The Problem of Puer Aeternus (1970), The Feminine in Fairy Tales (1972), Patterns of Creativity Mirrored in Creation Myths (1972), Shadow and Evil in Fairy Tales (1974), The Psychology of Meaningful Chance (1980), Projection and Recollection in Jungian Psychology: Reflections of the Soul (1985); The Liberation of the Feminine in Man (1992), On Dreams and Death: A Jungian Interpretation (1997); and The Grail Legend (1998). "The Realization of the Shadow" is an excerpt taken from Man and His Symbols, which was conceived and edited by Carl G. Jung (1964). When Jung died before the volume was completed, von Franz was chosen to finish the project. She was associated with Jung for twenty-eight years. Author Links
