(1944- )

Eavan Boland was born in Dublin, Ireland, and educated in London, New York, and Dublin. As one of Ireland’s most important contemporary poets, she has been concerned with Irish women moving out of their position as "the subjects and objects of Irish poems to being the authors of them." She currently teaches in the United States.

Boland’s collections of poetry include The War Horse (1975), In Her Own Image (1980), Night Feed (1982), The Journey (1987), Outside History: Selected Poems 1980-1990 (1990), and In Time of Violence (1994). Her essays appear in A Kind of Scar: The Woman Poet in a National Tradition (1989).
