SOFTWARE DOWNLOADS

Here you can download circuit files for use with two widely available PSpice circuit simulation packages: DesignLab/Schematics Evaluation Version 8.0 and OrCAD Capture Release 9.0. The circuit simulations discussed in the book are contained in the folders named STUDENT8 and STUDENT9 (depending on which of the two software packages are to be used), including answers to the Exercises that ask for PSpice simulations. Generally, each schematic or project file is named ExerX_Y where X is the chapter number and Y is the number of the Exercise. Other files are named for the figures in the book that show the circuit diagram, such as FigX_Y, in which X is the chapter number and Y is the number of the figure.

DEVICE MODELS

A library of device models, named DEVICE.LIB, is included in both folders. Models for the devices listed below are stored in this library file.

DEVICE TYPE MODEL NAME DESCRIPTION
1N4148 D1N4148 General-purpose small-signal diode.
1N746-59 D1N746-59 Zener diodes.
1N4001-7 D1N4001-7 Rectifier diodes.
2N2222A Q2N2222A General-purpose npn BJT.
2N5087 Q2N5087 High-beta small-signal pnp BJT.
2N5089 Q2N5089 High-beta small-signal npn BJT.
2N5210 Q2N5210 High-beta small-signal npn BJT.

2N3055A Q2N3055A Power npn BJT.
2N6122 Q2N6122 Power npn BJT.
2N6125 Q2N6125 Power pnp BJT.
TIP50 QTIP50 Power npn BJT.
2N4221 J2N4221 Small-signal n-channel JFET.
2N5460 J2N5460 Small-signal p-channel JFET.
2N5485 J2N5485 Small-signal n-channel JFET.
2N4351 M2N4351 n-channel MOSFET.
2N4352 M2N4352 p-channel MOSFET.

Additional device models are available in the device library EVAL.LIB that is distributed with the evaluation/demo versions of PSpice.

A subcircuit for the LF411 op amp that simulates linear device behavior is also included. Nonlinear behavior due to voltage limiting, slew rate limitation, and current limiting are not taken into account. However, this simple model has the advantage of allowing circuits with multiple op amps to be simulated using the demo versions of PSpice.

INSTALLATION

To use the simulation files:

  1. Obtain a copy of either DesignLab/Schematics Evaluation Version 8.0 or OrCAD Capture Release 9.0, install it on your computer, and become familiar with its use.
  2. Download and unzip the appropriate folder (STUDENT8 or STUDENT9) onto your hard disk. Use an application such as WinZip or Aladdin Stuffit Expander to decompress the files.
  3. For Version 9.0 only, you also need to copy the EVAL.LIB file supplied by OrCAD into the folder that contains the project files. Ordinarily, the path to this file is

C:\Program Files\OrCAD Demo\Capture\library\PSpice

Depending on the library in use, the simulation results may vary somewhat from those given in the book.

  1. Start either Schematics (Version 8.0) or Capture (Version 9.0) and open the desired schematic or project file. Then you can proceed to modify the circuits, run PSpice simulations, and view results.
