"Isn't this backwards?" According to classical mechanics, as an electron shifts from an outer orbit to an inner orbit its speed has to increase. Thus the kinetic energy of the electron has to increase. Yet, according to Bohr, during such a process a photon will take away the excess energy. Where does the excess energy come from?
